Origin and History of Birthstones

Various Cultures have a unique story of the origin of birthstones but this is my favourite.

Dates back to the bible, and in particular the Breastplate of Aaron. Aaron the priest, brother of Moses. God told Moses to make sacred garments for his brother Aaron for his consecration, to serve him as priest. Part of the Garment included a breastplate.

Exodus 28: 15-17

15 “Fashion a breast piece for making decisions—the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 16 It is to be square—a span[a] long and a span wide—and folded double.17 Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; 18 the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald;19 the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst; 20 the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper.[b] Mount them in gold filigree settings. 21 There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.

This list has been revised and the Modern Birthstone List was created by the American National Association of Jewelers, Jewelers of America and was officially taken up in 1912.

Used primarily for emotional connections, most people are peculiar about birthdays, anniversaries, zodiac signs and country of origin. It’s a great way to connect with potential consumers.

When gifting Jewelry or stone accessories to a loved one or a friend. It is important to stay thoughtful. Here’s a list of anniversaries and corresponding stones
